HIDDEN TREASURES
"Four Arts
Gardens"
|
 |
Season 2007 saw the re-opening of
the Hulitar Gardens affiliated with
the
Society of the Four Arts-a
masterful transformation of
landscape with pavillions, specialty
gardens, intimate sitting areas and
walking paths. The land, originally
acquired in 1965 for the Society
through the efforts of its loyal
suporters, had at one time been
considered by the Publix Markets to
site its
Palm Beach location!
Exquisitely executed, a visit to
this metamorphosis of paradise
located within the complex of the
Four Arts (bound by the
Intracoastal, Royal Palm Way,
Coconut Row and Seaview Avenue) is a
must for all Palm Beachers.
Originally
established in 1936 by the ladies of
Palm Beach who felt a dirth
of cultural opportunities on the
Island, The Society of Four Arts
original two story building was
constructed to house the Island's
only public library on the second
floor; with the first floor reserved
for social efforts, dances,
lectures, art exhibitions etc.
Today, the building is dedicated to
library functions and the
surrounding other buildings acquired
over the years to remaining four
arts.
(can you name them?)
