"[I am]...grateful for the abundance that's present --
love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and
personal pursuits that bring us pleasure -- the wasteland of
illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth."
S.

This marks the inauguration of the Redefining
Privileged...Live Who You Are Newsletter in which I
express my appreciation to you for your support of our real
estate profession. For my husband (and RE partner) Gerry
Connick and me, the concept of learning to live who you are
has evolved over the past twenty some years. Elegance,
culture, art, flowers, and sunny warm weather have been a part
of our daily lives.
To Live Who You Are" is indeed a privilege. Every
memory, every piece of art, every photograph, is a building
block on which we create our homes, therefore, they portray a
certain lifestyle and define who we are. I encourage you to
seek out what you love, find what comforts you, what makes
your heart sing, and most of all live who you are!
In our case, it's residing on Palm Beach and having the
opportunity to work with our neighborhood surrounded by
pleasures of art, cultural, flora, sea, theatre, educational
institutions, restaurants, etc. For us, one of the most
amazing riches here is the discovery of museum quality
masterpieces living in their owner's residence and emitting
their creative energy. Each issue will feature a work of art
held in private hands and the type of real estate its
residence represents. So come along and take a peek! And by
the way, go ahead and live who you are!
Happy Holidays! Jean Ellen

The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach is a
private, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to
the preservation of the historic, architectural and
cultural heritage of Palm Beach.
This issue features it's "Pan's Garden"
a botanical garden devoted to showcasing Florida's
native plants. The garden takes its name from the 1890's
bronze statue, Pan of Rohallion, designed by Frederick
MacMonnies. Pan, the ancient Greek mythological god
of shepherds, graces the entrance pool and welcomes both
young and old alike to enter a garden oasis of peace and
tranquility.
Pan's Garden, adjacent to the Foundations exquisite new
Headquarters on Peruvian Avenue's in town location of
Palm Beach, is a few blocks away from "Fusee's"
residence.

The Art Work, ITS HOME and The Artist !
|
|
|
|
The Art Work: Pictured above,
"Fusee"
from the portfolio,
"Nous Avons"
1959, an
etching by Joan Miro. It was acquired by its current owner
in 1977 from an art gallery on Newbury Street in Boston,
Massachusetts. The work reflects Miro's combination of
brilliant colors and simplified forms that remind one of
drawings made by young children. Miro was a prolific print
maker and worked in etchings and lithographs and like
Picasso and Chagall his works were also published in large
print editions targeted at a wider audience, thus original Miro art is available even for art lovers with a limited
budget. This work is one of only forty from the artist's
personal collection (note H. C. lower left hand corner)
and was purchased for $1075 in 1977!
The Neighborhood:
"Fusee" has traveled with its owner
since 1977, adoring their personal residences, both North
and South, and has resided in Palm Beach since the late
1980's. It "lives" in a Mediterranean style architected
home of approximately 4400 sq ft total living area
original built in 1925's booming period of home
construction on the Island of Palm Beach's highly
desirable in town section "close to Worth Avenue, the
Ocean and the Intracoastal. The property sits on a lot 50" x 125" typical in the area where properties
currently for sale start at $2,500,000. Based on recent
sales, "dirt" in the mid-town area is currently
selling at about $200's 250 a sq ft with new
construction quotes starting at approximately $350 sq ft.
The Artist:
Among his attributes, Joan Miro, 1893 - 1983, is known for his playful art. His emblematic images
make a childlike impression at first sight and
captured the attention of the owner immediately upon
setting eyes on the work.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Joan was the son of a goldsmith
and jewelry maker who reluctantly came to accept their
son's choice of a career as an artist. He moved to Paris
settling permanently in 1921, joined the circle of the
Surrealist theorist Andre Breton and comrades Andre Masson
and Max Ernst, always remaining apart. By the 1930's he
had developed his own style of which "Fusee" is a perfect
example, liking to compare his visual arts to poetry. From
this period on, Miro gained international acclaim
including one man shows at the Museum of Modern Art in New
York (MoMA). Today, his work hangs in most of the major
museums through-out the world, including Palm Beach's renown Norton Museum of Art.
Please note that "Fusee" residence is NOT FOR
SALE!!
